Taxonomy
Verpaspongia nodosa was named by Johns (1994). It is not extant. Its type locality is IK-3. Ikes Canyon sponge beds, Toquima Range, which is in a Rangerian carbonate limestone in the Antelope Valley Formation of Nevada. It is the type species of Verpaspongia.
