Plesiosaurus nitidus was named by Phillips (1871). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shotover, Oxford (OUM), which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian marine horizon in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
