Taxonomy
Patellispongia alternata was named by Rigby and Chatterton (1989). It is not extant. Its type locality is Baillie-Hamilton Island, BH1, 172m, which is in a Wenlock slope limestone/shale in the Cape Phillips Formation of Canada.
