Stenodiscus granularis was named by Yang (1958). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cizhuya, Beichuan, which is in a Guadalupian carbonate limestone in the Maokou Formation of China.
It was recombined as Araxopora granularis by Yang and Xia (1974).
