Taxonomy
Spaniolepis ovalis was named by Gorjanovic-Kramberger (1905). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Hallein (Hoefer coll), which is in an Alaunian marine marl in Austria.

It was recombined as Dandya ovalis by Tintori (1983), Hornung et al. (2019).
