Taxonomy
Oxygnathus ornatus was named by Egerton (1854). Its type specimen is BMNH P3485, a skull, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Lyme Regis, Egerton collection, which is in a Sinemurian marine horizon in the United Kingdom.
