Spalacotherium evansae
Taxonomy
Spalacotherium evansae was named by Ensom and Sigogneau-Russell (2000). Its type specimen is DORCM GS 355, a mandible (fragmentary right mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sunnydown Farm Quarry (clay: upper horizon; equivalent to DB 102/103 ), which is in a Berriasian/Berriasian lacustrine - small limestone/claystone in the Lulworth Formation of the United Kingdom.

Sigogneau-Russell 2000 | Lower molars differ from those of S. tricuspidens and S. henkeli by their smaller size, the incompleteness of the labial cingulum and the near equality of the roots with a similar labial extension; they further differ from those of S. henkeli by the absence of basal anterior and posterior swellings and by the paraconid being equal to or lower than the metaconid. They differ from the sole molar of S. taylori by the incomplete labial cingulum, and from all species by the individualisation, on some specimens, of a tinodontid-type cuspule f antero-labially (very narrow interlocking). |
