Acteosaurus tommasinii was named by Meyer (1860). Its type specimen is MCSNT 9960, a partial skeleton (articulated postcranial skeleton comprising anterior-most cervical and posterior-most caudal vertebrae, and portions of the pectoral and pelvic girdles.
