Taxonomy
Globidens dakotensis was named by Russell (1975). Its type specimen is FMNH PR 846, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Custer County, which is in a Campanian/Campanian marine shale in the Pierre Shale Formation of South Dakota.
