Keraterpeton galvani was named by Huxley (1867). Its type specimen is NHMING F 14735 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jarrow Colliery, which is in a Westphalian A terrestrial coal in Ireland. It is the type species of Keraterpeton.
