Ctenocystidae was named by Sprinkle and Robison (1978). It is not extant. Its type is Ctenocystis.

It was assigned to Ctenocystoidea by Sprinkle and Robison (1978), Jell et al. (1985); and to Ctenocystoida by Rahman and Clausen (2009).
