Astropecten mandelslohi was named by Forbes (1848).

It was recombined as Crenaster mandelslohi by d'Orbigny (1850), Pictet (1857) and Dujardin and Hupé (1862); it was recombined as Asterias mandelslohi by Quenstedt (1876) and Quenstedt (1885); it was recombined as Archastropecten mandelslohi by Hess (1955).
