Crenaster crenulatus was named by Seguenza (1880). It is not extant. Its type specimen is unknown.

It was recombined as Astropecten (Crenaster) crenulatus by von Linstow (1909); it was recombined as Astropecten crenulatus by Meneghini (1886), Hess (1955).
