Strombina edentula was named by Dall (1908). It is extant. Its type specimen is USNM 96578, a shell.

It was recombined as Strombina (Cotonopsis) edentula by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Cotonopsis (Cotonopsis) edentula by Jung (1989).
