Strombina (Cotonopsis) panacostaricensis was named by Olsson (1942). It is extant. Its type specimen is PRI 4059, a shell. It is the type species of Cotonopsis, Cotonopsis (Cotonopsis).
It was recombined as Cotonopsis (Cotonopsis) panacostaricensis by Jung (1989), Monsecour and Monsecour (2005).
