Taxonomy
Columbella turrita was named by Sowerby (1832) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Lectotype used for type specimen.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1966314/1, a shell. It is the type species of Cotonopsis (Turrina).

It was recombined as Columbella (Strombina) turrita by Tryon (1882); it was recombined as Strombina turrita by Dall (1909); it was recombined as Strombina (Cotonopsis) turrita by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Cotonopsis (Turrina) turrita by Jung (1989).
