Taxonomy
Pleurotoma clavulus was named by Sowerby (1834). It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1986189/1, a shell. It is the type species of Clavistrombina.

It was recombined as Columbella clavulus by Reeve (1858); it was recombined as Columbella (Strombina) clavulus by Tryon (1882); it was recombined as Strombina clavulus by Keen (1958); it was recombined as Strombina (Strombina) clavulus by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Clavistrombina clavulus by Jung (1989).
