Newellites richardsoni
Taxonomy
Waagenoceras richardsoni was named by Plummer and Scott (1937). Its type specimen is UT B3373 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is B.E.G. 55-T-3, Chico Draw, southeast of Casey's Last Chance well, which is in a Wordian carbonate limestone in the Cherry Canyon Formation of Texas. It is the type species of Newellites.
It was synonymized subjectively with Waagenoceras dieneri by Miller and Furnish (1940); it was recombined as Newellites richardsoni by Zhao (1980), Bogoslovskaya (1990), Leonova (2002), Leonova (2010).
