Taxonomy

Goniatites missouriensis was named by Miller and Faber (1892).

It was recombined as Schistoceras missouriense by Smith (1903), Plummer and Scott (1937).

Synonyms

Schistoceras smithi was named by Böse (1919). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is About 2 miles south of Gap Tank, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kasimovian marine horizon in the Gaptank Formation of Texas.

It was synonymized subjectively with Schistoceras missouriense by Miller and Furnish (1940).
Schistoceras diversecostatum was named by Böse (1919). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wolf Camp, Glass Mountains, which is in a Gzhelian carbonate limestone in the Gaptank Formation of Texas.

It was synonymized subjectively with Schistoceras missouriense by Miller and Furnish (1940).
Goniatites fultonensis was named by Miller and Gurley (1896).

It was recombined as Schistoceras fultonense by Smith (1903); it was synonymized subjectively with Schistoceras missouriense by Plummer and Scott (1937).
Schistoceras hyatti was named by Smith (1903).

It was synonymized subjectively with Schistoceras missouriense by Plummer and Scott (1937).
Metaschistoceras heilprini was named by Plummer and Scott (1937). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is B.E.G. 30-T-9 (H-6), Baird, Callahan County, which is in an Artinskian coastal siliciclastic in the Belle Plains Formation of Texas.

It was synonymized subjectively with Schistoceras missouriense by Miller and Furnish (1940).
