Heliolites muelleri was named by Beyrich (1865). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kali-Mati, Tabeno Mountain, which is in a Wuchiapingian carbonate marl in Indonesia.
It was recombined as Fistulipora muelleri by Rothpletz (1892).
