Machimosaurus mosae

Taxonomy
Machimosaurus mosae was named by Sauvage and Lienard (1879). Its type specimen is BHN 2R 1100 (neotype) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Verdun, which is in a Kimmeridgian marine mudstone in the Marnes a Gryphées virgules d'Issoncourt Formation of France.

It was synonymized subjectively with Machimosaurus hugii by Martin et al. (2015).

Pierce et al. 2009Machimosaurus mosae is a short-snouted teleosaurid that differs from M. hugii in having extremely short and broad rostrum; strongly developed pterygoid wings; contact between ectopterygoid and median third of pterygoid; reduced posterior concavity of the palatine fenestra of pterygoid; posterior edge of mandibular symphysis at the same level dorsally as ventrally and c. 17 maxillary and 19 dentary teeth.
