Pierce et al. 2009Steneosaurus heberti is a short-snouted teleosaurid that differs from S. bollensis in having relatively short, narrow rostrum; dorsoventrally flattened skull; larger, more longitudinally expanded supratemporal fenestra; large, dorsolaterally oriented orbits; unexpanded premaxilla; preorbital region only slightly wider than rostrum; mandibular symphysis extending almost half the length of mandible; 32–40 teeth on maxilla; 31–36 teeth on mandible and tooth crown slender, conical, striated and generally vertical.
