Taxonomy
Chiridota speciosa was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1946). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was recombined as Chiridotites speciosus by Deflandre-Rigaud (1950), Deflandre-Rigaud (1952), Deflandre-Rigaud (1962); it was recombined as Theelia speciosa by Soodan and Whatley (1988).
