Corymbopora was named by Michelin (1846) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno T Dani Sepkoski's reference number: 942]. It is the type genus of Corymboporidae.

It was assigned to Corymboporidae by Bassler (1953); and to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
