Taxonomy
Araripichthys weberi was named by Alvarado-Ortega and Brito (2011). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Tlayúa Quarry (IGM, general), which is in an Albian/Albian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Tlayúa Formation of Mexico.
