Heteropora was named by de Blainville (1830) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Heteroporidae.
It was assigned to Heteroporidae by Bassler (1953); to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cerioporidae by Schmidt (2003), Gordon and Taylor (2015).
