Multisparsa was named by d'Orbigny (1853) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale K Haut-l Sepkoski's reference number: 581,590]. It is the type genus of Multisparsidae.

It was assigned to Multisparsidae by Bassler (1953); and to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
