Trigonostoma triumpha was named by Olsson (1964) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene; Ecuador.]. Its type specimen is USNM 643878, a partial shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Punta Gorda [Esmeraldas Fm], which is in a Pliocene marine sandstone/sandstone in the Esmeraldas Formation of Ecuador.
It was recombined as Ventrilia triumpha by Landau et al. (2012).
