Trachyceras (Protrachyceras) shastense was named by Smith (1904).

It was recombined as Spirogmoceras shastense by Tozer (1994), Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2014).

Synonyms

Trachyceras (Protrachyceras) lecontei was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Brock Mountain, 3 miles east of Madison's ranch (Trachyceras subzone), which is in a Tuvalian carbonate limestone in the Hosselkus Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Spirogmoceras shastense by Tozer (1994).
