Reptilia

Taxonomy

Its type specimen is MNHN 1901-11, a partial skeleton (one tooth, one caudal vertebra, one distal extremity of an ulna and one distal extremity of a radius), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Djebel Teldja, which is in a Ypresian marine phosphorite in Tunisia.

It was recombined as Dyrosaurus phosphaticus by Stefano (1903), Buffetaut (1978), Moody and Buffetaut (1981), Jouve (2005), Jouve et al. (2006), Bronzati et al. (2012) and Sertich and O'Connor (2014).

Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. Jouve 2005Long and slender snout, about 68% of the total skull length; posterior wall of the supratemporal fenestra almost vertical and poorly exposed in dorsal view; inter- fenestral bar moderately wide and slightly T-shaped in trans- verse section; posterior margin of the skull roof straight in dorsal view; occipital tuberosities moderately extended; small posterolateral wing of the palatine within the suborbital fenestra; most anterior point of the posterior margin of the pterygoid wings far anterior to the level of the medial eusta- chian foramen, at mid-length between the foramen and the posterior margin of the choanal septum; deep craniocaudally elongated sulcus between the posterior margin of the choanae and the medial eustachian foramen.
