Gymnotropites americanus
Taxonomy
Paratropites (Gymnotropites) americanus was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Brock Mountain, 3 miles east of Madison's ranch (Trachyceras subzone), which is in a Tuvalian carbonate limestone in the Hosselkus Formation of California. It is the type species of Gymnotropites.
It was recombined as Gymnotropites americanus by Spath (1951) and Tozer (1994).
