Taxonomy
Costatoria melanesiana was named by Skwarko (1967). Its type specimen is CPC 5096, a shell, and it is a mold. Its type locality is M26, 5 miles north-east from Tabibuga, which is in a Carnian marine siliciclastic in the Jimi Formation of Papua New Guinea.
