Taxonomy
Microcheilus maxwelli was named by Bandel (2010). Its type specimen is SGPHM 4675 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Misurina near Cortina d'Ampezzo (SGPHM coll), which is in a Julian carbonate limestone in the Cassian Formation of Italy.
