Taxonomy
Ophthalmosaurus undorensis was named by Efimov (1991). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Simbirtsit 140, Malye Undory village on the Volga shore, which is in a Kimmeridgian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
