Kammerkarites was named by Spath (1924). Its type is Aegoceras diploptychum.

It was reranked as Waehneroceras (Kammerkarites) by Guerin-Franiatte (1990).

It was assigned to Waehneroceras by Guerin-Franiatte (1990); and to Schlotheimiidae by Yin et al. (2007), Meister et al. (2010), Howarth (2013).
