Nicklesopora was named by Bassler (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 509,571,1034]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Rhabdomesidae by Bassler (1953), Yang and Lu (1980); and to Cryptostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
