Pseudarchasterinae was named by Sladen (1889). It is extant. Its type is Pseudarchaster.

It was reranked as the family Pseudarchasteridae by Mah and Blake (2012) and Gale (2020).

It was assigned to Archasteridae by Sladen (1889); to Goniasteridae by Spencer and Wright (1966), Eagle (1999) and Blake and Jagt (2005); to Valvatida by Mah and Blake (2012); and to Paxillosida by Gale (2020).
