Dinorthis carleyi

Taxonomy
Orthis carleyi was named by Hall (1860) [Types not traced, from the Arnheim Formation, Richmondian, Ohio = 1873 Orthis retrorsa, Salter? [sic] Meek, p. 92, pl. 11, figs. 7a–e. = 1892 Plaesiomys retrorsa (Salter); Hall and Clarke, p. 197, pl. 5A, figs. 14–16. This often is misattributed to Hall 1847, but Hall 1860 is the first mention of the species (Jin & Zhan 2006).]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Dinorthis carleyi by Foerste (1917); it was recombined as Retrorsirostra carleyi by Schuchert and Cooper (1932), Davis (1985), Jin and Zhan (2008).
