Taxonomy
Ctenognathichthys hattichi was named by Bürgin and Herzog (2002). Its type specimen is PIMUZ A/I 2847, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is summit of Strel, Kanton Graubünden, which is in a Fassanian marine horizon in the Prosanto Formation of Switzerland. It is the type species of Ctenognathichthys.
