Taxonomy
Gervilleioperna (Gervilleiognoma) aurita was named by Aberhan and von Hillebrandt (1996). Its type specimen is SNGM 8242, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quebrada La Chaucha 661129/4, which is in an Opalinum carbonate limestone in Chile. It is the type species of Gervilleioperna (Gervilleignoma).
It was recombined as Gervilleioperna (Gervilleignoma) aurita by Aberhan and von Hillebrandt (1996) and Aberhan (1996).
