Taxonomy
Lioteuthis problematica was named by Naef (1922). Its type specimen is GPIT 8746 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ohmden quarry near Holzmaden, lower epsilon II-4, which is in a Tenuicostatum marine shale in the Posidonia Shale Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Lioteuthis.
