Dunkleosteus raveri was named by Carr and Hlavin (2010). Its type specimen is MCZ 13277, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rye Beach Roac, which is in a Famennian marine shale in the Ohio Shale Formation of Ohio.
