Taxonomy
Fasciolaria gigantea was named by Kiener (1840) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; circum-Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Fasciolaria (Triplofusus) gigantea by Olsson and Harbison (1953), DuBar (1958); it was recombined as Pleuroploca gigantea by Rosenberg (1992); it was recombined as Triplofusus giganteus by Petuch and Roberts (2007), Snyder et al. (2012).
