Taxonomy
Rhabdolepis cretaceus was named by von der Marck (1863). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Holcolepis, Rhabdolepis.

It was recombined as Holcolepis cretaceus by von der Marck (1868) and von der Marck (1873); it was recombined as Osmeroides cretaceus by Woodward (1901).
