Leptobolus was named by Hall (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde-l O Ashg-l Sepkoski's reference number: 397]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Glossellinae by Wright (1963), Williams et al. (2000); and to Lingulida by Sepkoski (2002).
