Taxonomy
Plioplatecarpus marshi was named by Dollo (1882). Its type specimen is MNHN AC 9649-9775, a set of vertebrae (127 vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is ENCI-Maastricht B.V. quarry (Nekum), which is in a Maastrichtian shallow subtidal chalk in the Maastricht Formation of the Netherlands.
