Anotophysi was named by Rosen and Greenwood (1970) [listed as a Series]. It is extant.

It was corrected as Anotophysa by Betancur et al. (2013), van der Laan (2019).

It was assigned to Ostariophysi by Betancur et al. (2013); and to Ostariophysi by Grande and Grande (2008), Long (2011), Bannikov (2014), Nelson et al. (2016), van der Laan (2019).
