Zaproridae was named by Jordan (1896). It is extant. Its type is Zaprora.

It was assigned to Zaproroidea by David (1943); to Bathymasteriformes by Jordan (1963); to Zoarcoidei by Fierstine et al. (2012); to Zoarcales by Betancur et al. (2013); and to Scorpaeniformes by Nelson et al. (2016).
