Taxonomy
Proarcestes planus was named by Shevyrev (1995). Its type specimen is PIN 1477/628 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tkhach River, Proarcestes-Phloioceras beds, which is in a Julian marine carbonate in the Babuk Formation of the Russian Federation.
