Taxonomy
Ammonites hantkeni was named by Schloenbach (1867). It is the type species of Hantkeniceras.

It was recombined as Hantkeniceras hantkeni by Alkaya and Meister (1995), Géczy and Meister (1998) and Geczy and Meister (2007).
